Step-by-Step: How to Install the HPD Inspection Card Frame

  1. Choose the correct location
    Install near the mailbox area. If there is no mailbox, install in the vestibule or entrance area.
  2. Measure the height
    Place the frame 48"–62" above the floor.
  3. Mark the wall holes
    Hold the frame level against the wall and mark the screw holes with a pencil.
  4. Drill pilot holes
    Drill holes where marked. Use wall anchors if installing into drywall, plaster, brick, or masonry.
  5. Insert anchors
    Push the anchors into the drilled holes until flush with the wall.
  6. Attach the frame
    Place the frame against the wall and fasten screws through the frame into the anchors.
  7. Insert the HPD inspection card
    Place the 6" × 9" HPD inspection visit card inside the frame.
  8. Check visibility
    Make sure the card is easy to see, readable, and not blocked by mailboxes, doors, furniture, or decorations.

Compliance Note: The HPD inspector provides the inspection card. If the top section is blank, the owner must complete it.

Post certificate of inspection visits in frame

The owner should provide a frame that is properly able to accommodate a 6" x 9" inspection visit card. The frame should be posted 48-62 inches above the floor. If a mailbox exists, the frame should be posted at or near the mailbox. If there is no mailbox in the vestibule, the owner should select a suitable accessible location in the vestibule or entrance way of the building for the frame. The HPD inspector who visits the premises will provide the inspection card. If the top portion of the card is not completed, the owner must fill in top portion of card.
