Description

ENERGY EFFICIENCY GRADING LABELS FOR BUILDING

NYC Local Law 33 of 2018 requires certain buildings to clearly display an Energy Efficiency Grade at the main public entrance. This letter grade (A through F) shows how a building performs compared to similar buildings across New York City and is based on annual energy benchmarking data submitted to the City. The purpose of this law is to improve transparency, encourage energy efficiency, and give tenants, visitors, and the public an easy way to understand a building’s energy performance at a glance.

Compliance with Local Law 33 is mandatory and actively enforced by the NYC Department of Buildings. Building owners and property managers must obtain the official energy efficiency label each year and post it correctly by the required deadline to avoid violations and fines. This flyer explains the law in simple terms and walks you through what buildings are covered, what actions are required, and how to stay compliant year after year.
