Section of the Law: MDL § 329
Building owners must ensure that a designated frame is installed to accommodate a 6" x 9" inspection visit card, as required by law. The frame should be securely posted at a height of 48 to 62 inches above the floor, ensuring it remains visible and accessible. If the building has a mailbox, the frame should be placed at or near the mailbox for convenience. In cases where no mailbox is present in the vestibule, the owner must select an appropriate and easily accessible location within the entranceway or vestibule for the frame. This requirement helps facilitate communication between the Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) inspector and the building owner or manager regarding inspection visits.
When an HPD inspector visits the premises, they will provide an inspection visit card to be placed within the frame. If the top portion of the card is left blank, it is the owner's responsibility to fill it out with the necessary details. This ensures compliance with MDL § 329, which mandates the proper display of inspection visit notices. By maintaining a properly placed and accessible frame, building owners help ensure that inspection records remain visible, preventing confusion and potential violations. Compliance with this law promotes transparency and accountability in building inspections, ultimately benefiting both tenants and property owners.
